I don't want to jinx it but after a very long time we had some good weather today! Actually felt like the start of March and the start of a new season.. 🐝🌻
.
Anyway - I wanted to share some ideas for practising sight words.. So my boy has been learning sight words lately..
.
Introducing two new words every week has been a good strategy.. At the end of every week, we gather the word cards for all the tricky words we have covered till then and play fun games to revise..
.
Like this sight word play mat.. You read the sight word, then use letter cards (or magnetic letters) to build it and then practice writing it.. 📝👍
.
Another fun way we like is to place all the word cards around on the floor.. Then use a kitchen spatula to spat the words and read them out loud.. 🪰🪰

Math is a cumulative subject.. 🧮🧮

So often children struggle with Maths because it is a highly cumulative subject.. Meaning the concepts build onto each other.. Its hard to get a child to understand math if they don't have the correct building blocks.. 📝
.
Some ways that you can help -
✅ Make sure the foundational knowledge is good - don't move ahead until the child has a good grasp and basic understanding of numbers
✅ Ensure you don't let math anxiety creep in. Maintain a positive and stressfree attitude even if you have to explain the same concept multiple times
✅ Use games and try to mix match some basic number concepts together. Like in these addition clip cards - not only does the child work on number recognition, but also on counting, one:one correspondence and number addition..

A quick little game with some blocks and a ball.. 🤸🧸

At times you dont need much to setup something engaging for the littles.. I just made a small track out of some blocks and had Bubba blow a table tennis ball through the track to the finish line.. ❤️👍❤️
.
You can also give your kids a straw to blow through and steer the ball.. 🥰
Or even time them as they complete the track to make it even more fun.. ⌛
.
